Blood Sugar Supplements: Evidence & Buying Guide
What research can and cannot tell us about supplements marketed for blood sugar support, plus a safer buying framework.
What the evidence says
NCCIH concludes that there is not enough scientific evidence to show that any dietary supplement can manage or prevent type 2 diabetes. Some ingredients have shown possible effects in studies, but results and study quality vary.
Before you buy
Check the Supplement Facts panel, serving size, ingredient amounts, stimulant content, warnings and seller terms. Be skeptical of promises to cure diabetes or replace medicine.
How FDA regulation works
FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before marketing. Manufacturers and distributors are responsible for meeting applicable safety and labeling requirements, and FDA can act against adulterated or misbranded products after they reach the market.
